Hi everyone! Back in September for World Water Monitoring Day I went to my local elementary school and presented for the day about info on water, showing how I monitor water monthly by demonstrating, using a model to show pollution runoff, having an art project, and giving educational material from Southwest Florida Water Management District and Hernando County Utilities Department to the students. I was also able to teach a small class of homeschoolers and include them in this too!
I was super excited about the art project with students. I had made sea creatures out of chicken wire for the students to fill with trash. I am super happy how they turned out. When you look at the animals it shouldn't just show a pile of trash, it represents litter and the damage it causes. When I monitor water monthly there is always trash for me to pick up, and it's not even mine. We need to do better. The animals show that they eat the trash, they can mistake it for food and end up dying. Have you ever thought that maybe the fish that you caught and ate had microplastics in it? It's scary to think about but it happens. "Not Just Top Soil" is an art display at the Uptown Gallery in Brooksville City Hall. It has the sea creatures and information from my presentation. I am super excited that it is open to the public to see!
